One of the 2017 Special Releases from Diageo, this limited edition was distilled at Pitlochry’s Blair Athol distillery in 1993. Matured in ex-bodega European oak butts for 23 years, this is the first new bottling from the distillery since 2003. Presented at a natural cask strength of 58.4% abv, only 5,514 individually numbered bottles are available worldwide.
The nose is dry with peanut brittle and honey atop crème brûlée and baked bananas with a complex and warming spice. The palate is rich, smooth and sweet, with spicy oak and liquorice amidst fruity aspects. Treacle toffee and aniseed turn to lemon zest and herbs. The finish is sweetly fragrant and spicy with fresh mint and charred oak.
